NAME: Kenji KAMIYA AFFILIATION: Hiroshima University, Fukushima Medical University SHORT BACKGROUND FOR INTRODUCTION: Dr. Kenji Kamiya is a vice president of Hiroshima University, and Fukushima Medical University. He graduated from Hiroshima University, School of Medicine in 1977 and completed a Ph.D. of pathology in 1986. His research at the Research Institute for Radiation Biology and Medicine of Hiroshima University focus on the field of radiation biology, radiation carcinogenesis and radiation emergency medicine. He became a professor in 1996 and served as the director for four terms, 2001-2005 and 2009-2013. Also, he has served the director of Radiation Emergency Medicine Promotion Center since 2004. After the nuclear accident in Fukushima, he has served radiation health risk management advisor of Fukushima Prefecture since 2011. He was awarded a prize for his contributions to disaster prevention by the Prime Minister, Cabinet Office in 2012. For his achievements as a researcher, he received the Asian Association for Radiation Research Award in 2009 and Radiation Effects Research Achievement Award in 2017. He served as the president of Japan Radiation Research Society from 2008 to 2011 and the secretary-general for 15th International Congress of Radiation Research (ICRR2015) at Kyoto in 2015. He is currently serving as an adviser for Cabinet Secretariat Government of Japan and the chairman of Japan Radiation Council. He is a council member of Science Council of Japan. He assumed the director of Radiation Medical Science Center for the Fukushima Health Management Survey at Fukushima Medical University in 2016. |
