Comments Although Kampo medicine originated from ancient Chinese medicine, it is a Japanese traditional medicine with a history of over 1,500 years. It can be said that Kampo medicine is a traditional medicine suitable for Japanese people because it has formed and developed its own theory based on the clinical experience accumulated in Japan. Kampo medicine includes herbal medicine, acupuncture and moxibustion, and massage. Kampo formulas, in particular, has been included in insurance medical care since the mid-Showa period. Japan is the only country in the world with advanced traditional medicine, where patients' complaints are diagnosed from the perspective of both traditional and modern medicine. However, even for the same disease, the appropriate prescriptions vary from person to person and the effects are diverse, which may make Kampo medicine difficult to understand. In order to safely provide effective Kampo treatment to patients, it is necessary to train personnel who are properly trained in Kampo medicine and to continue research to clarify the effects and safety. We will do our best to ensure that the education and research we conduct will be of use to patients.
