Comments | My research area is early childhood education and care (ECCE) in developing countries. I have recently engaged in studies on the effects of ECCE in rural and impoverished areas of developing countries and international cooperation in ECCE. Some of my research questions are what aspects of child development are promoted by different modalities of ECCE in rural Cambodia and how long their effects are sustained over time. In another study, I pose questions such as how teacher-centered ECCE practices are transformed to play-based learning in countries like Mongolia and Myanmar and its effects on child development. Previously, I researched the impact of primary education reforms in rural and impoverished areas of Latin America and ECCE for young foreign residents in Japan. I am interested in the issues of education and poverty, and the question of what kind of education can lead to better lives for people living in poverty lies at the root of all my research. |
