I am researching "better assessment for Japanese language learning" in the field of Japanese language education, which teaches Japanese to non-native speakers of Japan. (1) Development of reading fluency measurement tools (2) Development of a vocabulary assessment for early to middle elementary school children (3) Practice and evaluation of Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) I also teach a class on how to evaluate language. When we think of evaluation, we have a strong image of paper tests, but there is more to it than that. Interviews, quizzes, and teachers observing learners and noticing problems in the classroom are also forms of evaluation. Assessment and teaching always go hand in hand. Think about what tests are for, and how they can help students learn when you are the teacher and you are assessing them. |
